Free Home Learning
Free lessons, life skills and local meet-ups for families supporting a child with SEND, EBSA, reduced school attendance, alternative education or home learning.
What's here
Free learning resources for families, in four groups: curriculum lessons, worksheets and games; cooking and baking activities; everyday life skills; and money skills. Below those you will find local home education and EBSA-friendly meet-ups, and a section of short activities for children who find busy days hard.
It is for families whose child is home educated, finding school hard to attend, or simply needing something to do at home, and for anyone who wants to keep learning going at a gentle pace.
Every resource links to the provider's own website.
Use the age, subject, format and support filters to narrow the learning resources, and the meet-up filters to choose an area. The coloured badges show at a glance whether something is completely free, or whether the provider also offers paid services.

Visit RSPBEBSA and elective home education are not the same thing
EBSA (emotionally based school avoidance) describes a child who is finding it very hard, or is currently unable, to attend their educational setting because of emotional distress. It describes the difficulty itself. It does not say anything about whether a child is registered at a school. Many children with EBSA are still on their school's roll, and others are not: a child may never have been registered at a school, may be below compulsory school age, or may already be educated at home or in alternative provision.
Elective home education is a positive choice that a parent or carer makes to take on responsibility for their child's education instead of a school doing it. A child does not have to have attended school first. Some families home educate from the very beginning, some start after their child leaves a school, and some home educate one child while another stays in school. If your child is on a school roll and you decide to educate them at home, you must tell the school in writing.
You should not feel pressured into elective home education because your child is struggling to attend. Being unable to attend does not mean your child has to be removed from the school roll or de-registered, and it does not mean you have to home educate. If your child is on a roll and finding attendance hard, the school and the local authority remain responsible for their education and for the support they should be getting, and they should be working with you on a plan to help your child back into school or to access their education in another way. Taking a child off a school roll is a serious decision, and it is yours to make.
You do not need to remove your child from their school roll to use anything on this page. The meet-ups and groups below welcome families in whatever situation they are in, and the filters let you find the sessions that suit you.
An important note about learning at home
If your child is on a school roll, the school and the local authority remain responsible for their education, including any special educational needs support, and for the attendance support they should be providing. If your child is being electively home educated, you are responsible as the parent for making sure they receive a suitable education. If your child is not on a school roll, your local authority's education team can tell you what you need to do.
The resources on this page are suggestions to help families. They do not replace a school's or a local authority's legal responsibilities.
SENDBridge is free for parents, families and carers. Some of the sites and groups linked here also offer paid extras, and local activities may charge a fee. Anything with a charge is clearly labelled, and the price shown is the organiser's published price at the time we last checked.
We only mark a group as SEND-friendly, or EBSA-friendly, where the organiser themselves states it. If you are unsure, please ask the organiser directly before booking.
General information only
This page is general information, not legal or professional advice. Every family's situation is different, and the law and local arrangements can change. Please check anything important with a qualified adviser before making a decision about your child's education.
For free, independent advice about your own child, you can contact your local SENDIASS service, IPSEA (Independent Parental Special Education Advice), or your school's SENCo. If your child is not on a school roll, your local authority's education team is the right starting point. National advice services and helplines are listed in our SEND support directory.
